Bernard Davies, social education, group work and youth work. Bernard Davies is a, perhaps the, key figure in the development of youth work in Britain in last forty years of the twentieth century. His work, initially with Alan Gibson, was central to social education becoming a defining feature of youth work in the 1960s and 1970s. His analysis of youth and youth work continues to allowed workers to develop a more critical social and historical understanding of practice. In this piece we examine his contribution to the theory and practice of youth work, and also to the development of group work.<\/h2>\n
