Established in 1995 as the informal education homepage, the website evolved into an encyclopaedia exploring informal education and pedagogy in schooling, working with children and young people, community learning and development, social pedagogy, and lifelong learning. Run as a not-for-profit, cookie-free resource, it received around two million visits per year. Following a major system failure and significant problems republishing articles, we have reviewed the site. This led us to decide to take it offline and develop a smaller, more focused resource. It will open in 2027.
You can still access articles (from 1998-2026). Just search for infed.org on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine: Click to visit.
